(NX 84068891) Breckonside Tower (NR) (Remains of)

The ruins at this site consist of Breckonside Tower to the W, measuring 29ft 6 ins by 21ft. Its 4 to 5ft thick walls stand 3ft high. There is an adjoining outbuilding to the N, and another 5ft distant to the E. Their walls are reduced to turf-covered mounds.

John Maxwell of 'Brakensyd' is mentioned in 1552-3.

The remains of Breckonside Tower (Mr Geddes, Straith, Nr Dunscore) are generally as described by the RCAHMS. The walling of the tower is 1.2m thick and up to 1.0m high and that of the outbuildings is 0.9m wide and 0.8m high.

Surveyed at 1:2500.
