(NX 7062 5378) Mote (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

There is a small sub-oval motte beside Culdoach farm. Its summit measures 87' N-S by 48' transversely. Along the E side for 2/3 of its length from the S end there is a slight ridge with a right-angled return towards the centre, suggesting a foundation. At the base of the 8' high mound, towards the NW, there is the segment of a 17' wide ditch which has ended on the W a few feet short of the sloping side of the glen. It has been filled in where it existed on the N and NE. The ground is marshy to the S.

RCAHMS 1914, visited 1911; F R Coles 1891

A motte generally as described. No trace remains of the slight internal ridge on the E side, and on the E the ditch and outer scarp continuous on Coles plan, no longer survive, having been covered by a farm track.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (DWR) 15 February 1972.
