Architect: Sir Robert Lorimer, 1926-7.

This is a memorial to Alexander Morton (1844 to 1923), who introduced machine lace manufacture into the Irvine Valley c.1880. The memorial was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1926-7 and comprises a bronze bust (recently reinstated) and a frieze on either side depicting hand weaving and a mechanised (belt-driven) lace machine.
