(NX 1229 4127) Standing Stone (NR)

OS 6" map (1957)

This standing stone is situated on the edge of the raised beach terrace. It is 3'6" high by 3'3" wide and 9" thick, oriented ESE-WNW. Its top is much broken and it bears no carvings or inscriptions. Livens, suggesting a possible connection between this stone and the long cist cemetery (NX14SW 8) adds, it is possible that this stone may originally have been a cross-slab, bearing either a painted or a lightly incised cross of which no trace now survives.

RCAHMS 1912, visited 1911; R G Livens 1958

The stone measures 1.1m x 0.2m x 1.0m high, otherwise as described.

Visited by OS (DWR) 25 January 1972

This standing stone is situated on the edge of the raised beach 140m N of Terally Bridge. It measures 1.05m in breadth, tapering in thickness from 0.4m at the SW side to 0.25m at the NE side, and its top has been broken off 1.1m above the ground. There is no evidence that the stone is associated with the adjacent long cist cemetery.
