NT39NW 13 3474 9737.

(NT 3474 9737) The Gaswork Cave was discovered in the sinking of a tank for a gasometer. No sculptures were noted in this cave, but it shows signs of habitation by way of a stone bench at the entrance, and which has a mortar hewn out of it. This mortar contained a few traces of grain when discovered. The floor of the cave has been paved with large boulders.

C Maclagan 1876

When the gasometer was removed from the area near the 'Gasworks Cave', a cave entrance which had been sealed up when the gasometer was built (about 100 years ago) was revealed. Some attempt has been made to find out if one of the walls would show further carvings, but as yet, nothing of interest has come to light.
