The Flodden Wall was extended in 1560 as far as the SE corner of the North Loch. In addition to the New Port (NT27SE 14.11), Maitland (1753) notes two other openings in this part of the wall, the College Church Postern and the Hospital Postern, but these were probably only means of access to the College and Hospital (NT27SE 37) respectively.
