(NT 2573 7355) John Knox's Grave (NR) AD 1572 (Site of)

OS 1/500 plan, (1895)

John Knox died on 24th November 1572. He was buried in St Giles' Cemetery (NT27SE 6), and according to Laing (1864) his grave was unmarked, but there is reason to believe it was a little W of the statue of Charles II in Parliament Close.

D Laing 1864; R Richardson 1910.

A stone in the road at this point stated "J K 1572". No further information.

Visited by OS (J F C) 3 March 1954.

No change from previous field report.

Visited by OS (S F S) 26 November 1975.
