Trial excavations here showed that recent land-scaping has buried the former ground surface under approximately of c.19th century date overlay undisturbed top soil containing post-medieval pottery. Similarly, stratigraphy was observed in the southern trial but, in addition, the north bank of the East Burn was located. A layer immediately over the natural bank of the burn contained early post-medieval pottery and a coin of Charles I.
