(NS 7943 9246) Randolph Field (NR)

OS 6" map (1958)

A portion of ground in front of the modern house known as Randolphfield, where the skirmish took place on 23rd June 1314, between 500 Scottish horse, led by Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray, and a troop of English cavalry, under the command of Sir Robert Clifford.

Name Book 1860

The name Randolphfield, which is obviously artificial, seems to date no further back than the end of the 18th century. For all that, it may identify the locality traditionally associated with the skirmish.

A F Hutchison 1893; OSA 1795

The site is now the private garden of a large residence.

Visited by OS (FDC) 27 June 1950
