At Kirktonhall (NS 2050 4830) is an obelisk type sundial dated 1717.

SDD List 1963

NS 2050 4827. This distinctive sundial is set in the garden of Kirktonhall (now local District Offices). An attached plaque reads "A stone column, carved into a multiple sundial, erected by Prof Simson in memory of his parents whose initials I S and A S and the date 1717 appear on this stonework together with an armorial shield bearing three crescents symbolising the stages of life".
