Ballindean House

Portfolio. Design for additions. perspective viewe, plans and section c. 1830. ( Design attributed to the owner William Trotter but in style of Thomas Hamilton).

The house was reduced in size, the Northern edge of the building being set back with the removal of the service rooms.

Information from owner 1969. In 1832 William Trotter built Ballindean in front of the 1711 house. In 1840 Robert Knox Trotter inherited and married Lord Rollo's daughter. He was outlawed to the French Court where his wife had an affair with Napoleon III in Paris and they had a daughter.The mother and daughter returned to Ballindean. William Stead, a decorator from London and a chaplain, came to Ballindean and had an affair with Miss Trotter. They had two illegitimate children and one born after marriage called Louis Napoleon Bonaparte Charteris Stead.
