NR38NE 11 3647 8890.

(Area: NR 365 888) Cnoc Rioch-the Brindled Mound - a Mesolithic kitchen-midden comparable to Caisteal nan-Gillean (NR38NE 8) and Cnoc Sligeach (NR38NE 12). Although no report of its excavation about 1884

is preserved, the collection of Wm Galloway, the excavator from the site in National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) is sufficient to identify its character. It consists of stone and bone implements and flint chips. Other finds include a bead of mudstone, two barbed and tanged arrowheads, one leaf-shaped arrowhead and three side scrapers, all of flint. They were donated to the NMAS by Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal.

NR 3647 8891: Cnoc Rioch: a large bracken and heather covered mound, measuring 55.0m N-S by 26.0m, and up to 6.8m high.
