(NO 6862 6564) Cross (NAT)

OS 25" map, (1927)

The remains of Marykirk market cross whose original site is not known, but which stood near the gate of the churchyard in 1796. It was moved to the published site in 1857.

Only 30" or so of the shaft remain, showing it to have been oblong in section with the usual chamfered edges stopped at the bottom. It stands on a large stone base, and this in turn rests on another stone with chamfered edges

J W Small 1900; Name Book 1863; Statistical Account (OSA) 1796; A C Cameron 1899.
