A small excavation in advance of redevelopment revealed stratigraphy dated by pottery not earlier than the 14th century. A group of large sub-rectangular postholes lying c 6m back from the street frontage indicate a substantial timber building, but with no clear evidence of internal or external features or surfaces. A single flint and small fragment of pottery lying on natural may be of prehistoric date.
