NO41NW 8 4172 1567.

(NO 4172 1567) Grave Yard (NR)

OS 6" map (1920)

"In a wood, formerly a grave yard, 250 yards to the north west of Kemback House is a weatherworn effigy of a female figure dating from the 15th century. It measures 5ft 10 inches in length and is fractured at the neck and waist. The head rests on a pillow and the hands are clasped on the breast".

RCAHMS 1933

"About half a mile distant (from Kemback Church 8 SW 4) the site of an older church is pointed out but all that remains of it is the late headless effigy of a lady."

D MacGibbon and T Ross 1897

The course of the graveyard wall is traceable as a mound of earth and stones. The enclosure was irregularly shaped. Within it lies the effigy and now overgrown with moss. Nearby is a stone measuring 1 x 0.5m with a cavity on one side. It has the appearance of being a broken socket-stone, but this is not certain. No other dressed stones are to be seen within the graveyard and there are no traces of a church.
