A probable crannog was discovered c. 100yds from the shore of the Loch of Kinnordy when it was drained in the 18th century. It was based on a stone foundation and secured by oak piles. Reid (1909) gives its dimenstions as 70 paces in diameter and 10' high. (See also NO35SE 12.)

At NO 3666 5442 is a large flat-topped mound, which the farmer at Balbrydie states is the only noticeable mound existing in the now-drained loch. The OS 6" 1st edition map shows a sub-circular pecked area at this spot, linked by a causeway, and the dimensions of c. 80.0m in diameter, together with an estimated height of 2.5m-3.0m, tends to agree with the site described above. The mound could not be closely examined as recent flooding has partially restored the loch around it.
