St Magdalene's Quarry

(Disused) [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1994.

St. Magdalene's Quarry, which lies on the SW flank of Friarton Hill, is now disused. It is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire, 1866, sheet xcviii) as a small quarry with an access road leading to it from the N. It was still in use at the end of the 19th century (2nd edition map, Perthshire, sheet XCVIII.SW, 1902) and had expanded considerably to the SE.

The depiction of the quarry on the OS 1:10,000 map of 1994 indicates that the quarry remained in use for some years after 1902.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 11 December 1996.
