(NN 4902 4178) Tower (NR) (Caisteal Mhic Neill) (In Ruins)

OS 6" map (1900)

Fort: badly mutilated and impossible to plan.

W J Watson 1913

The tumbled remains of a homestead (c/f NN44SE 7), situated at the foot of a S-facing slope in a poor defensive situation. Intermittent traces of the inner and outer wall faces are visible giving a width of 2.8m and an internal diameter of 13.8m. The entrance passage is not apparent. The remains of a crude building in the SW of the interior are probably contemporary with a shieling bothy to the S.

The name "Caisteal Mhic Neill" is still used locally.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (JP) 9 September 1975
