NM26SW 15 2176 6078.

There are traces of ancient walls, possibly of some kind of stronghold, on Cnoc Ghillibreidhe, a rocky hill near Gallanach. The name may refer to the Earl Gilli who resided in Coll c. 980-1014, or to one of his desendants. According to the local tradition a "noble family" occupied this part in ancient times, their seat being known as "Du-clach" - ? Dun-clach.

E Beveridge 1903.

Cnoc Gillibreidhe is situated at NM 2176 6078 but exhibits no traces of antiquity. The field at NM 2154 6075 is still known locally as "Du-clach. Ther have been no recent finds.

Visited by OS (I S S) 21 June 1972.
