NJ94NE 10 9503 4992.

Higher up (from Rotten Cairn, NJ94NW 30) in a small plantation W of S Auchmachar is a mass of burned stones, 3 to 6ft deep, extending over a space of 40 by 60ft, apparently a cairn. Charred oak wood was exposed in pits dug in the mass, but no bones have been found, because the cairn has never been excavated to the bottom.

J Milne 1898

A scattered mass of stones, lies at the end of a prominent ridge at NJ 9503 4992. It is too amorphous to be classified, and may be related to nearby depopulation, although the position is good for a cairn. No burnt material was apparent. (However, see NJ95SE 31).

Visited by OS (NKB) 17 April 1968.

Listed as settlement/cairns. Air photographs: AAS/97/13/G28/27-30, AAS/97/13/G29/1-3 and AAS/97/13/CT.

NMRS, MS/712/29.
