NJ64NW 12 c. 62 45

Possibly on map sheet NJ64SW.

'On the summit of the Hill of Balnoon, or rather on its neck towards the east, there was till lately a lofty upright stone called 'The Conwath' or 'Conway Stone', and by some 'The Charter Stone'. It was surrounded by a slight ditch... The old name of the parish was Conveth.'

J Stuart 1855.

No sign of a standing stone was evidenced at Hill of Balnoon centred at NJ 6265 4507. There is a farm with the name 'Charterstone' at NJ 6302 4502, but the present owners know nothing of this feature.

Visited by OS (JTT), 9 September 1964.
