(NJ 4220 3878) Edinglassie Castle (NR)

(Site of)

OS 6" map, Banffshire, 2nd ed., (1902)

Edinglassie, 'an old building though of inferior note' was burnt in 1690 by some of the highland clans during their march from Strathspey to Strathbogie.

OSA 1796.

No trace of a castle although the tenant at Edinglassie Mains knows the tradition of a castle named Edinglassie Castle at the site indicated. A dovecot, 56.0m to the E, may have been associated. (See NJ43NW 4).

Visited by OS (NKB) 2 February 1967.
