(Name cited as Smithston, Rhynie). Air photography (AAS/00/09/G24/4-5 and AAS/00/09/CT/40-3, flown 13 July 2000) has recorded the cropmark of a possible ring-ditch on a gentle slope at an altitude of 173m OD. A solid dark circular cropmark about 10m to the NE may represent a hut stance.

Aerial photography (AAS 2000) has revealed the cropmarks of what may be a round-house and a small ring-ditch on a terrace on a gentle SE-facing slope about 530m WSW of Smithston farmsteading (NJ52NW 67). The round-house has formed a solid circular cropmark measuring about 10m in diameter; the ring-ditch lies some 15m to the W and measures about 6m in diameter.
