The remains of an old building, locally described as 'The Castle' are said to have existed close to the present farm-buildings at Castle but on the S or opposite sides of the road. No traces survive.

RCAHMS 1946, visited 1929

According to Mr D Bews (of Castle), RCAHMS are referring to the former farm buildings at ND 4732 9439 which would locate the site of "The Castle" (of which Bews has seen no trace) to the area centred at ND 4735 9430.
