(ND 1552 6992) Rossy Hillock (Cairn) (NR)

OS 6" map, Caithness, 2nd ed., (1907)

Rossy Hillock (NR) (site of)

OS 6" map, (1970)

The mound called 'Rossy Hillock' probably covers the ruins of a broch, but it has been so long under cultivation that its dimensions are now quite indefinite.

RCAHMS 1911.

Rossy Hillock: As described above; classification and survey action are impracticable. The name is still known locally.

Revised at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 16 February 1965.

Rossy Hillock stands fairly prominently within an arable field. Although its margins are very poorly defined, it measures approximately 34.5m N-S by 30.0m and stands 1.3m high. It is more likely to be a burial cairn than a broch.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (J B) 7 December 1981.
