(NC 7274 5185) Burial Chamber (NR)

OS 6" map, (1964).

The remains of an Orkney-Cromarty type cairn, with a polygonal chamber, situated on a narrow ridge. The remains now consist of a group of slabs set on edge representing the chamber and passage, with a little cairn material around them. Otherwise the cairn has been removed and its edge cannot be traced, although the situation dictates that could not have been more than 36ft. in diameter. The chamber has been about 10ft. wide and entered from the east. A slab on the SE side bears a group of none cup-marks on its inner face, but these have a suspiciously fresh appearance. The site was apparently in its present state in 1864.

J M Joass 1865; A S Henshall 1963, visited 1955.

This burial chamber and passage are as described and planned by Miss Henshall.

Visited by OS (J L D), 6 May 1960.

No change to previous reports.

Visited by OS (J M), 19 July 1977.
