NB46SE 2 4745 6178.

A wooden bowl, 9 1/2 ins in diameter by 5 ins in depth, was found during peat-digging at Airds, South Dell. It is cut out of the solid and the sides are about 1 3/8 ins thick. It was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS, Accession no. SFA 13) in 1909. Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1910.

The find-spot of the bowl was pointed out by Mr Smith (A Smith, 3 Aird, Barvas, Lewis) at NB 4745 6178.

Visited by OS (N K B) 15 June 1969.

This bowl, in the Museum, could be of any date up to the 18th/19th century.

Unfinished carved bowl, tentatively attributed to the Iron Age and held in the National Museum of Scotland under accession numbers ME 401 and SFA 13.
