A boulder bearing ornamentation of a unique character lies about 200yds SE of the township of Gunnister in the Hamarberg district. It rests on top of a low circular heap of small stones, which has a diameter of about 12', and its greatest dimensions are 6' 4" by 3'3 1/2" by 1'3". Around the margin it has been scalloped in a series of carefully pecked-out or ground-out hollows, which measure, on an average, about 4 3/4" by 3" by 1 3/4". It would be idle to guess at its significance, but it has been stated that on the bare summit of the rock over its site has held the earliest Law Ting Court in Shetland, afterwards removed to Tingwall (J T Irvine).
