HP50NE 5 5752 0561.

(HP 574 057). Norse house, 'Sturatafts', near Bighton, Westing. It is a mere foundation, 50' to 60' long, with an interior width of about 12'. There are traces of outbuildings.

J Stewart 1954

On a fairly steep NW slope, at HP 5751 0564 are the turf-covered walls of a Norse farmstead, with an annexe against the SW wall, and a crude outbuilding c.12.0m to the S. It measures internally 16.0m NW-SE down the slope, and 3.8m transversely, with walls about 1.5m thick, faced internally with a discontinuous line of slabs, maximum height 0.8 m. It is similar in size, plan and construction to Underhoull (HP50SE 1) and HP50NE 4 and HP50NE 8.

Low field walls in the vicinity are almost certainly contemporary.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (NKB) 3 May 1969.
