Large Naval target. Bound from Montrose to unknown destination. Lost 2 Mar 1945, 5.45pm GMT. 20 yards east of Montrose Ness lighthouse, North Sea. Wind north west, force 2. Swell from north east. Cause of wreck, tow rope parted while crossing the bar. No person on board. 'Was being towed by Naval Tug SEAMAN M44 and drifted ashore where it now lies awash at high water. Target, which was built at Montrose, is about 130 feet in length and is constructed of solid timber weighing approximately 300 ton.'
