Croftbain is a farmsteading situated by the Carrach Burn to the north-west of Carn na h-Iolaire. The 1972 Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 map shows the steading to comprise three roofed buildings. The steading probably dates from the nineteenth century, and reference to the 1st edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of Banffshire (1872) shows that Croftbain comprised a range of buildings set around a courtyard. At some point, Croftbain had used water power to drive machinery as a mill dam and sluice are recorded near the steading buildings.
