Under the terms of its call-off contract with Historic Scotland, Kirkdale Archaeology was asked to collect and assess finds handed in to Historic Scotland Custodians by a visitor at Dumbarton Castle, and to investigate and assess the area where the finds were discovered. The principal discovery in the collection was a coin F001 that appears to be made from a copper alloy. The oxidised copper on the surface on the coin has obscured any markings. The rest of the small collection of finds comprised green glazed pottery F003, a piece of black glass or black glazed pottery F002, a small quantity of animal bone F007, and a number of sherds of white glazed and patterned pottery F008.
