Long cists have been found in Dunoon on at least two occasions and two groups are recorded in the OS Name Book (en.1).
(1) To the S of Dunoon Castle (No. 127) several 'full length skeletons covered only by two slabs brought together at the top' were discovered. The skeletons were left undisturbed.
(2) In 1822 in the garden of Castle House (No. 157) there were found seven or eight inhumations 'deposited in the same way'.
