This project, which was undertaken mainly in 2017, followed on from the first Connected with the Clyde Project (https://canmore.org.uk/project/995458) and upgraded about 360 existing Canmore records for which a direct association with the River Clyde could be demonstrated. The enhancements to the records included changing, when necessary, the location of the site, its classification and/or period; site descriptions were brought up to date and these were supported by a programme of photography. Several sites were also recorded through measured survey.

1030069 | RECORDING | DESK BASED ASSESSMENT | This single span cantilever footbridge, measuring some 160m in length, crosses the River Clyde and connects Bothwell on the E bank to Blantyre on the W. It was opened in October 1999 and replaced a bridge (NS65NE 70) that had been demolished the previous May. [...] | 15 September 2017 |
1032547 | RECORDING | DESK BASED ASSESSMENT | Nothing now exists in an area occupied by dry dock services and marine facilities of the Scott Lithgow Training Centre, which was built in 1968 and stood immediately north of the James Watt Dock. The school was built as a result of the merging of the companies of Lithgows Ltd. and Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. Ltd, and it worked in cooperation with the Shipbuilding Industry Training Board, providing training for the shipbuilding industry throughout Scotland and the UK. The school ceased operation in 1981 following a general decline in shipbuilding. An archaeological watching brief in 2011 noted its recent demolition and the remains of floors and foundations (WP004280). The training centre archives are held at the Glasgow University Archive Services (GB 0248 GD 323/19). [...] | 18 January 2018 |
1032546 | RECORDING | DESK BASED ASSESSMENT | Clydevale House is a two-storey category B listed house (LB7686) that was built about 1790 on the west bank of the River Clyde in the village of Crossford. Its principal architectural feature is a pedimented façade overlooking the river. The house is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Lanark Sheet XXV.9 (with inset XXV.5)) standing (with an outbuilding immediately to the NNE) in the NE corner of what is probably an orchard or former orchard. The contemporary OS Name Book describes the house as ‘slated in good repair. Property of C. McLaws Esq.’ (Lanarkshire vol. 44, p18). Today, the house remains in private ownership, with the NE corner of the former orchard retained as a garden. At least three other houses and their gardens occupy the other parts of the orchard.
