At 143 High Street, a merchant's house, Annet House, also restored, and converted into a museum and heritage centre, gives some clues to eighteenth-century housing and their large rigs to the rear. The rig wall probably partially predates the present building; nineteenth-century features, such as a cistern and ice-house, may be viewed.
