On the south side of the River Clyde approximately 700m NW of Nether Hangingshaw there is a flood defence embankment that formerly followed the line of the north bank of the river but now lies to the south since the Clyde has changed its course. Measuring about 950m in length, the bank, which is well-formed in places and heavily eroded in others, has been truncated by the modern course of the river at both its NE (NT 0006 3417) and SW (NS 9980 3366) ends.
