Scope and Content Handwritten inscription on reverse: 'Manor Water, Peebles 17/7/35. 'This stone now in Chambers Museum, Peebles, was found in the field (supposed site of St. Gorgon's (sic) Kirk or Chapel). It was found in a pit "supposed furnace" 4'ft 6" deeplying on the paved floor. It bears ancient markiing and has been under great heat. The slag attached to the point is iron (iron double-underlined). No trace of copper was found in the analysis. (note) the 1" scale on edge of paper below it.. JS Grieve' (signature)'
