Scope and Content Stones of Lundin, Lundin Links, Fife This group of three impressive monoliths lie within the Lundin Ladies Golf Course. A fourth stone, recorded in the 18th century, lies broken nearby. Curiously shaped, it is easy to see why antiquarians were so interested in this group of stones. The New Statistical Account of 1845 conjectured that they could be Roman, memorials to Vikings slain by Macbeth and Banquo, or perhaps of 'Druidical' origin. The purpose of such monuments remains uncertain, though much-debated today. Some sites undoubtedly held religious or ceremonial significance, others perhaps acted as territorial or route markers.
