Scope and Content Drawing of cross-slab from Mid Clyth, Caithness, Highland Mid Clyth graveyard is located in the parish of Latheron, north-east Caithness. The graveyard lies between the coast and the main road that runs between Dunbeath to Wick. This drawing by John Nicolson (1843-1934) shows a carved stone or cross-slab of Early Medieval date which can still be seen standing in the centre of the graveyard. One side has an incised cross of unusual design. The upper and lower arms terminate in two spirals and the lateral arms that form the cross terminate in circular rings. There are medieval references to a church at Clyth. However, the graveyard is quite modern and there is no evidence of a chapel nearby so it is possible that the stone originally came from another site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
