Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, Mullardoch Dam, south wing, looking downstream of blocks nos 23 and 24, 2 May 1950 Mullardoch Dam was completed in 1952. It spans Loch Mullardoch which was built across the River Cannich and extends c.16km west of the dam. The Mullardoch Dam was the largest to be built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board's and is 727m long and 48m high. This view shows part of the south wing of Mullardoch dam, with two of the sections of the dam being formed of mass concrete. The steel frameworks support the wooden shuttering which forms the moulds into which to pour the concrete. The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
