Scope and Content Strathfarrar Works Contract 101, Deanie Tunnel, erection of Guyrex shutter at intake, 5 January 1961 Commissioned in 1963, Deanie Power Station is fed by water from the River Farrar, that is stored and released by the Monar dam. Water passes down the Deanie tunnel where it is joined by additional waters from three side stream inlets and from an aqueduct system from the north of Glenstrathfarrar. This view shows the entrance section at the Loch Monar end of the tunnel, with a mobile section of shuttering being erected. Concrete will be placed between the outside of the shutter and the rough rock of the tunnel, to give a smooth finish. The Deanie Power Station is one of four power stations constructed as part of the Strathfarrar scheme. Great care was taken in its design and construction to minimise the impact on scenery in the strath. The Strathfarrar scheme formed a part of the Affric/Beauly scheme, one of eight large schemes built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board from the 1940s to the 1960s.
