Scope and Content Freight train at Rannoch Station, Perth & Kinross, from north-north-east This view from the north-north-east was taken on 11 August 1994, and shows two locomotives at the south end of the station, on a south-bound freight train. The locomotives are both of type 37, a class of diesel-electric locomotives introduced in 1960 used very extensively on the West Highland Railway. This photograph was taken during a special train to Fort William to mark the centenary of the opening of the West Highland. The special had to wait at Rannoch for this freight train to arrive from the north. Rannoch Station is on the West Highland Railway, opened in 1894, and is one of the remotest stations on British railways. It is of the company's standard island platform type, with a passing loop, and a standard wooden platform building in the 'Swiss Chalet' style. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
