Date 3/1972

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 796193

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Slipway, Cove Road, Gourock, Inverclyde This view from the east-south-east, taken in March 1972, shows the vessel on the repair slip in Cove Road, being repainted for her new owners. In the right background is part of an Admiralty pier. This vessel was later sold to the Alloa Brewery Co, and put into service on Loch Lomond, after substantial alteration, as the 'Countess Fiona'. She remained in service there until 1989, and then lay on the slip at Balloch until the late 1990s, when she was demolished on the slip. This view shows a vessel built in 1936 for service on Loch Awe, as the 'Countess of Breadalbane', but transferred to the Clyde in 1952, for operation by the Caledonian Steam Packet Co. She was sold in 1971, and renamed 'Countess of Kempock'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
