Scope and Content Railbus on Larbert-Alloa service at Larbert Station, Main Street, Larbert, Falkirk This view, taken from the west-south-west on 27 January 1968, at Larbert, and shows a railbus built by Park Royal in the late 1950s on a Larbert-Alloa service. The station seen in the background had been rebuilt in the late 19th century by the Caledonian Railway. This photograph was taken on the last day of the Larbert-Alloa service. The passenger service from Stirling to Alloa ended on 29 September 1968, leaving Alloa without a rail service. There are currently proposals to re-open the Stirling-Alloa line to passengers. The branch line from Larbert to South Alloa was extended to Alloa in 1885 by the Caledonian Railway. It crossed the River Forth on a long iron viaduct with an opening span, and linked in Alloa with the Stirling & Dunfermline Railway, which had opened in 1852. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
