Scope and Content Train at Muirhouse Works (Sawmills), No 57 Maxwell Road, Glasgow This view taken in July 1962 shows an ex-Caledonian Railway goods locomotive with a short train on the sidings serving the sawmills, and, to its right, the line leading to the railway workshops. On the extreme right is the junction between the Cathcart Outer and Inner Circles, with a then-new electric train. This locomotive was one of the Caledonian Railway's last class of goods locomotives, and was one of the last of that company's locomotives operating in the Glasgow area. The sidings seen here have now all been lifted. These sawmills were built between 1886 and 1898 by J Watt Torrance & Co. They were immediately to the west of the former Caledonian Railway Engineer's Department Workshops, built in 1902-3. Both had their own rail connections. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
