Scope and Content Train at Railway Station, Alloa, Clackmannan This shows the station on 27 January 1968, from the west, with a train to Larbert, consisting of a single railbus of a type built by Park Royal. The station had been rebuilt by the North British Railway in the late 19th century. It is in a cutting, and the covered footbridge is the link to the town. This photograph was taken on the last day of the service to Larbert, and the service was a special one for the Scottish Railway Preservation Society, which stopped at the bridge carrying the line over the River Forth, to allow members to see the central swing span being opened. The first station in Alloa was opened in 1850 by the Stirling & Dunfermline Railway. In 1851 it became a junction for a branch to Tillicoultry (extended to Kinross in 1865), and in 1885 for a line to Larbert built by the Caledonian Railway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
