Scope and Content Coroghon Castle, Canna, Highland, from north-east To the right, at the east end of Canna, on the stack which juts out over the sea, is Coroghon Castle. It is only accessible by a steep narrow path. According to Thomas Pennant who visited Canna in 1772, 'it was built by a jealous regulus [ruler] to confine a handsome wife in'. The castle is rectangular in shape and the remains are constructed of rubble. It probably dates from the 17th century. Canna is one of the most westerly of the Small Isles and is situated to the north-west of Rhum. The island is low-lying and is a mixture of fertile ground, bog and moorland. In 1981 Canna was gifted to The National Trust for Scotland by Dr J L Campbell. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
