Scope and Content Pan Ha', Dysart, Fife, from south-east This view from the south-east, taken in 1979, shows the east end of the complex. On the left is the so-called 'Tide-waiter's House', and in the middle is 'Hie-gait', with a doorway dated 1750. On the right is part of a more modest 18th-century house. The white harl and cement margins are typical of the Trust's house style. The refurbishment of these buildings, and the construction of an infill block, has made this an attractive place. The complex is close to the harbour, and the houses were probably originally built for merchants. In the background is the massive tower of St Serf's Church, built in about 1500. This group of buildings, dating from the 16th and 18th centuries, was taken over by The National Trust for Scotland in the mid-1960s, and converted into modern dwellings in 1968-9 to designs by W Schomberg Scott, as part of the Trust's 'Little Houses' scheme.
