Scope and Content Stobcross Quay, Glasgow, from east-south-east This view from the east-south-east, taken in 1979, shows the east end of the quay, with the Stobcross Crane to the left and the northern terminal of the Glasgow Harbour Tunnel to the right. This circular building housed hydraulic lifts to take horse-drawn vehicles to and from the twin vehicular tunnels. Queen's Dock and this quay were closed in 1970, and the dock was subsequently filled in, to become the site of an exhibition centre and an hotel. The large electric cantilever crane was built at its east end in 1928-32. A second hotel was built on the site in the foreground in about 2000. This quay was formed on the north bank of the River Clyde as part of the development of Queen's Dock in the 1870s, but was not completed until 1882. It is nearly 305m long. For most of its length it was lined with single-storeyed transit sheds. It was built partly on the site of Barclay, Curle's shipyard. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
