Scope and Content Cornton Foundry, Cornton Road, Bridge of Allan, Stirling This shows the interior of the brass moulding shop, which was not being used at the time. Brass moulding is usually carried out on a bench, like the one on the right, using a finer moulding sand than is usual in iron founding. The heap on the floor is moulding sand. In 1971 this foundry was still owned by a Mr Davie, who ran it with two employees, who moulded for a fortnight, then poured all the moulds at once. Most of the output was sold to Perth County Council and to Stirling Town Council. The foundry has since closed and been demolished. This foundry was built in 1940-2 by James Davie & Sons, iron founders and engineers, who had a foundry in the centre of Stirling where they made architectural castings and agricultural implements. The new foundry was built to make castings for the war effort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
